“21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition

2025-01-02

In last academic year, LAI Wai Sum (Charlotte) from 2B duly competed against 12 other contestants at the Hong Kong regional final of The China Daily 2024 “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition, where she won the coveted first prize. Under the topic of “Be A Brave Dream Pursuer”, Charlotte shared her journey towards becoming a top maths student and encouraged others to fight fearlessly for their dreams.

Being in the junior secondary category, Charlotte was shortlisted by an expert judging panel based on a video entry submitted by her. After the semi-final, she was required to give a two-minute prepared speech and a one-minute impromptu speech, followed by a ninety-second question-and-answer session, in the final.

The champion of the university category will represent Hong Kong in the forthcoming National Grand Final, while the winners of other groups will have the opportunity to participate in an Exchange Programme and overseas MUN courses sponsored by See Change Education. This will allow them to learn from and interact with peers nationwide. Furthermore, outstanding contestants will be selected to become anchors and junior reporters for China Daily Hong Kong edition, contributing to the production of youth-oriented video programs.
